For a child's first visit, which we recommend around 3, we have you come in. You can stay in the room with your child, and we try to get as much done as possible, but sometimes it's not possible. But at least it gives the child to know that nothing's gonna bother them here. We also don't mind if you wanna bring your child in when you're getting your teeth cleaned so they can stand around and make sure they get a feel for the office and know that we aren't gonna do anything that's gonna harm them. It makes it a lot easier for them to come back. And then of course, there's the toy box afterwards. We have many, many kids that do a great job just so they can get the toy afterwards.
We know a child's first visit can be very traumatic, especially if they've had some bad experiences with doctors, something like that, where they had to get something done. So, we sit them in a chair, let them go up and down the chair. Show 'em the water syringe, so they can squirt that. Put on a rubber glove, and just, very, very gingerly, work our way through. Once again, sometimes it works a lot well, and sometimes it doesn't. We'll take our time to make sure that child has the best experience they possibly can.

Put Your Child on the Path to a Healthy, Confident Smile
In general, we recommend that your little one visit us for the first time at age 3 or 4. We will take our time with them, going at their pace so they feel completely comfortable. The goal is to get them accustomed to dentistry in general and the idea of taking good care of their teeth. Of course, you are always welcome in the room with them for these visits.
We will examine your child’s developing teeth and make sure there aren’t any big problems that need attention. We will show them the proper way to brush and floss and emphasize the importance of maintaining good oral health – all in a way they can understand and remember. At the end of their visit, they can choose a prize from our treasure box. Kids love this special touch, and it helps them look forward to their visits.
If your child is under age 3, you’re welcome to bring them with you to your own checkups. This will help them “test out” dental visits and get them acquainted with us as we care for your teeth. Plus, it’s important for them to see their parent going to the dentist on a regular basis and taking good care of their own teeth. Your example will go a long way to helping them maintain a lifelong smile.
